When a couple chooses Iceland for their wedding, you know the day is going to be something special. This intimate celebration at Hotel Ranga on Iceland's stunning South Coast was exactly that — emotional, adventurous, and utterly beautiful.
The morning began in the warm, log-cabin interiors of Hotel Ranga, where the bridal party got ready together in matching silk robes, the bride's lace gown and silver-grey bridesmaids' dresses hanging on personalised hangers nearby. Across the hotel, the groom fastened his cufflinks by the window, boutonnières laid out and ready for the day ahead.
The couple exchanged vows at Hotel Ranga, floor-to-ceiling windows framing the vast Icelandic countryside behind them. Personal vows, happy tears, and a room full of the people they love most — the antler chandelier and soft pom-poms overhead giving the space a perfect rustic elegance.
After the ceremony we stepped outside for portraits in the wildflower meadow surrounding the hotel, before heading out along Iceland's Ring Road for one of my favourite parts of the day. At Þorsteinslundur, lush green moss and a cascading stream made for an intimate, fairytale setting. From there we drove to Skógafoss, where the couple stood before one of Iceland's most powerful waterfalls as mist swirled around them — while the groomsmen waded into the river in their wellies, arms raised triumphantly in the air. Our final stop was Reynisfjara black sand beach, with the dramatic Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising from the Atlantic and the bride's veil catching the ocean breeze — some of the most striking portraits I've ever made.
The day ended back at Hotel Ranga with a beautifully styled dinner, eucalyptus garlands running the length of the table and candlelight glowing across the room. The perfect close to an extraordinary day.
